Although they are often confused, Golfer’s Elbow and Tennis Elbow are two different overuse injuries of the tendinous structures of the elbow and wrist. Golfer’s Elbow (aka Medial Epicondylalgia) is a tendinopathy affecting the tendons on the ‘underside’ of the forearm – also known as the Common Flexor Tendon. At the elbow, this tendon attaches the Common Flexor Tendon to the Medial Epicondyle – the bony protrusion on the inside of the elbow. . TENNIS ELBOW: . Tennis Elbow (aka Lateral Epicondylalgia) is a tendinopathy affecting the tendons on the ‘topside’ of the forearm – also known as the Common Extensor Tendon of the wrist. Your neck holds a 5kg weight on top of your body ALL DAY LONG - it's your head!⠀ .⠀ Whether you sit at a desk for a living or push weights around a gym for a living it is important to make sure your whole spine has the appropriate amount of blood circulating and range of motion to get the job done with efficiency!⠀ .⠀ This lateral flexion mobility exercise is great to engage the muscle of the neck concentrically (shortening while contracting) and eccentrically (lengthening while contracting). Holding the arms out at the sides further lengthens the muscles. .⠀ Stretching has it's place - but this is not a stretch. The muscles in the neck shouldn't fully 'relax' when sitting upright - or else the head wouldn't be able to stay put!⠀ .⠀ Notice that I don't stay in one place for more than a couple of seconds - I'm trying to activate the muscles of the neck, not make them 'relax'.
